Hello my son has a statement of 25 hrs per week. He has a right sided hemi with limited function in right hand and arm leg less affected; one of the main reasons for getting a statement was so that Finn would continue with exercises and functional activities throughout the day to improve function, he has limited physio or ot sessions. Can I get the number added to his statement, and I don't know the best way of ensuring specific exercises are done everyday, does any one have an IEP that is detailed and has specific goals that I could see?
I have let things drift a bit I am afraid and I now need to make sure he is getting what he needs.
I would be very greatful for any advice or comments.
Thank you
Helen

Hiya
while I dont have a child with hemi, I have hemi myself, but I have a son with autism who has a statement so I know the system well. Its good your son has the statement, however if it states that he should be getting Physio and OT at school, it should state that the school have to be in regular contact with these professions and be working on recomended stratigies. Its possible I think to get a number of hours per week specified in the statement, but you would have to formally ask your LEA to amend it. As far as his IEP is concerned, the school should be reviewing this every term and adjusting it to his needs,m so this could be very specific and detailed, as to how to impliment physio and Ot programes accross the school day. Some things could be done for instance as a class group, just a slight alteration to a PE lesson could get all the kids doing a warm up exercise that would benifit your child and compliment the physio programme......its not rocket science, but sometimes schools seem to make things such hard work for themselfs.....
statements etc are something you need to keep ontop of and speak up if you think anything needs changing........
good luck with that
Jane
