Hi

How are you getting on with the botox now? You should have notice a difference within a week. My daughter has had botox 3 times and is due a 4th. The way it has gone for us is that for a few days nothing changes, then her hand goes really floppy so that i worry that they've put too much in. She needs to get used to some of the muscles not working properly so it takes her a couple of weeks to start using her hand differently. Then there is a period of about 3 or 4 months where she is much looser and her hand function improves a lot. This is the time to get her using it as much as possible. Then comes the horrible bit - so be prepared! - when the botox starts wearing off and she goes back to having a clenched hand. I wasn't prepared for that bit the first time and i found it upsetting. However, after 3 botox jabs, i have noticed that each time her spasticity is less overall, even after the botox has worn off, and it is just a question of being patient over a long period of time.

my main advice for you is to use the window of time that you get with the botox to do as much physio as possible and get Madison using her muscles as much as possible. That is the only way to get lasting effect, and is well worth the effort.

Overall i have been very pleased with the botox that my daughter has had, and feel that we are lucky to have been offered it, as i know other children who haven't had the chance. I hope it goes well with Madison.

Good luck
Rachel
