Heather And Her Kaye Walker

Heather has had her Kaye walker for a few months now but in the last week or so has really taken off. She can now move really fast although has problems steering! She is now using it to get to and from the car and today had a really good physio session using her frame. After physio we stopped at the shops and as usual I said 'Heather,...

Heather Has Self-weaned

I have written on here before about Heather's love of breastfeeding - at the age of 2 she was feeding up to 10 times in 24 hours most of which were at night. :o I loved extended breastfeeding but needed some sleep so just after her 2nd birthday I told her there was no more breastfeeding at night. She begrudgingly accepted it and finally began...
My lovely Emma who is nearly 4 has been going to ballet and disco dancing since the start of the year. Every week we bring Heather and at first she wasn't at all interested and just spent the hour crawling around. In recent weeks she's been taking an interest so we've been taking her in for one dance - a little mermaid song that...

Such Exciting Times

My beautiful incredible daughter is walking with her Kaye walker and she is a star. Seeing her walking without me by her side is like all my xmas's have come at once. She is incredible and suddenly I'm not so scared of the future. I can see my lovely girl up on two feet whereas before it seemed like a life-time away. Today we went to a...

Bedtimes

Heather has been waking up 5 or 6 times a night and demanding to be breastfed which has left me tired, grumpy and unable to cope with her needs in the day time. Two nights ago I decided that she would not longer breastfeed to sleep or have any feeds until the morning. The first two nights were hard but she looked more angry than upset. She...

Heather's Kaye Walker

Heather is starting to get used to her AFO's now which is great - and I'm getting used to knowing how to put them on! Today at the physio I mentioned that Heather is getting frustrated about not being able to walk and the physio said we could try a Kaye Walker. I was not sure how Heather would re-act but she was really excited and...

A change of diagnosis

We found out today that Heather does not have Hemiplegia - she has diplegia with both arms also affected although her left arm not much as her right. We knew both her legs were weak but the diagnosis is still a lot to take on board. I feel quite upset that it will probably take her a lot longer to learn to walk and that her walking will always...
Way back last summer Heather was walking with us supporting her around her body - now in the New Year she has just started crawling and we don't walk with her anymore, in fact walking is a long way off for Heather but you know what? I'm happy. Our NHS physio convinced me last summer that Heather could walk if she wanted too (why the ######...

Look who's walking!

Ah, it's a beautiful thing. In the three weeks since Heather has had her boots she is now walking - with a great deal of support of course and very wobbly steps but it is a beautiful sight. We have always been told Heather would walk but you can't quite imagine it until you see it. Now the image of my lovely girl running around the garden...
The boots have made such an incredible difference to Heather - she is able to stand hanging on to the settee and play standing up. She can also stand up from sitting in a chair if she has something in front of her to hold on to. She still detests being on her front, I can't see her crawling really but she is starting to move a little bit on...
